Horse-crazy kids grow up to be horse-crazy adults. And we still like to read a good yarn about our favorite animals.
Ordinary book catalogs are excellent for finding non-fiction horse books, or even for finding juvenile horse fiction. But for some reason, it's quite hard to find books for older readers with horse-related settings or characters. Looking for books with horses on the cover will only get you so far.
This site was created to help share the titles and authors of our favorite horse books, and to specifically review their horsey content. In addition to novels, non-fiction narratives and young adult books are welcome on this site. If you've enjoyed a horsey book recently, please take the time to add it to the database or vote on the ratings - share the knowledge!

| Non-Fiction Narrative | It doesn't have to be fiction to be fun to read. Here you'll find the personal true-life stories of famous and not-so-famous horses and equestrians. |
| Mystery | A lot of horsey novels hide in the mystery genre, including many very successful series. |
| Historical/General Fiction | This is probably the hardest place for a horsey novel to fight it out in the marketplace, but there are many fine books that sally forth with only an equestrian theme. |
| Fantasy | Pegasus, the oldest horse story of all, is fantasy, and the idea of horses that are just a bit more than ordinary lives on. |
| Questing Fantasy | The classic Tolkienesque category that involve long, destiny-laden rides on horseback, punctuated with the occasional battle, mystical happening, and act of wizardry. Sometimes the horses are just transportation, but sometimes they are developed as characters. |
| Romance | Yes, the classic source of painfully bad equestrian fiction. |
| Science Fiction | Believe it or not, some writers think there will be horses in our future - sometimes even in spacefaring cultures. |
| Young Adult | Most of the best horse stories involve teenagers coming of age with the help of horses. The publishers hide them in young adult, but many are quite intelligently written. |
