| a classic must-read for any horse lover, by ponydom on December 01, 2005 |
| This is a classic piece of horsey fiction that most kids of the 70's will have read. Mokey, the pony of uncertain heritage, cleans up beautifully, and Ginny goes from knowing nothing to being very capable with the help of knowledgeable neighbor friends. And since she has to deal with each problem as it comes up (tethering on a long rope => rope burns on legs; loose in apple orchard => colic; jumping alone without a helmet => concussion and deep embarrassment), it has lessons about horse care that will stick with you forever. It is aimed at middle schoolers, but it still makes me wish for a pony to ride bareback across an open landscape. |
