Horse connection:
(dressage) Podhajsky is a noted dressage rider from the Spanish Riding School in Vienna

Description:
This book is a narrative discussing many of Podhajsky's mounts through his life, and some of the highlights and lowlights of each of their careers. Although he is best known for his association with the Spanish Riding School in Vienna, he also had many non-Lippizan mounts, including Thoroughbreds and some most unpromising youngsters that other riders had discarded.

The book is valuable both for its historical value, covering the early days of competitive dressage as it morphed from a cavalry to civillian pursuit, and also for its discussion of the trial-and-error inherent in training any horse. It is a decent narrative, and would hold the interest of someone outside of the dressage community.
