Mary Thomson's Eventing Year Debbie Sly
(eventing) A chronicle of Mary Thomson(King)'s 1992 season Description: The book is in a week-by-week format, starting with her horses (King William, King Boris, King Basil, and Star Appeal) out at grass, and describes her fitness and competition regimen that aimed (successfully) for Badminton and the Olympics. It is wonderful to see how she varies the programme for each horse based on its personality and needs and level of training. It is also heartening to see that even Mary has setbacks, and to follow along as she changes her plan to meet changing circumstances. The pictures (by Kit Houghton) are fabulous, and the narrative of what should be by all rights a rather dry story is compelling. Well worth tracking down - it was published in the UK.
