The inspiration for the Disney movie, "Wild Hearts Can't be Broken," this book is the autobiography of Sonora Carver, who rode the Atlantic City diving horses who leaped from a 40-foot platform into a pool of water. An accident left her totally blind, but she continued to dive even so.

A Girl and Five Brave Horses has been reprinted. It became available in May 2009. I got my copy at Amazon...I haven't found it anywhere else. The book sold for about $25.00. I'm so happy to finally have a copy of my own. BTW, the cover of this book is different then the original but the book is the same as the original...including the original photos.

I was wondering if anything is in the works for having this book republished. I am very interested in getting this book for my sister and the only ones that I can find are orginal, which are from $300.00 to $700.00.
Please let me know of any news about this book being republished. The movie is being re-released by Disney on January 17, 2006.

A reference librarian should be able to locate a copy for you - there are master databases available to them. Then, you just have to hope it's possible to arrange a loan of it to your home system. If not, time for a Road Trip!

The author name is Sonora Webster Carver, Lorena was her sister-in-law. Sorona died in Sept. 2003 at the age of 99.
