(western) A horse brings joy to a boy and an older woman
Description:
Thirteen-year-old David is furious when his father quits the rodeo life and moves them to a house in Vermont. Sarah adores Gypsy, as she names her, and finds new joy in her life caring for this special mare. And David, in his turn, helps Sarah and finds joy again as well.

There aren't many horse books that show an older woman like Sarah buying her first horse - her insecurity, and her joy. She's afraid but she dotes on her horse like a horse-crazy teenager. She learns to ride and comes to enjoy the countryside in a new way. And even her friends surprise her by wanting to try her horse. It's a quick read but worth hunting down.
