(racing) The story of the great TB racehorse Nearctic
Description:
Nearctic was an equine aristocrat. Tall, proud, and true to his regal heritage, he could run a hole in the wind.
But Nearctic became a pawn in a bizarre power struggle. Gordon (Pete) McCann, the gifted trainer of scores of Windfields Farm champion
Thoroughbreds cared for him, but he was no match for those whose agendas ran counter to the best interests of Nearctic. McCann was overruled again and again, and both man and horse suffered. Still, Nearctic ended up a champion and today nearly 75% of Thoroughbred foals decend from him.
| Too Many Facts Not Enough Story, by ChissyMay on April 08, 2008 |
| It was an interesting book, providing lots of insight into the history of one of Canada's most famous sires, however I found that the book was plagued with more facts than story on some occations, and was a bit lacking when describing the training of Nearctic. It was increadibly factual, and gave a lot of background on some very famous horsey Canadians, but feels a little too biased for my tastes. |
