A great new series for kids!, by bhutchinson on October 21, 2005
I loved this book. Let me say it again, I loved this book! I remember reading books just like this when I was a kid and I'm so happy to see that they've returned with this series. I've read books from some of the other kids series and I couldn't get into them. Either they focused on life at home between visits to the barn, girlfriend/boyfriend interactions, or the horse stuff just wasn't accurate. This series has none of that. Fun and enjoyable and you don't have to worry about your child reading about things other than horses.
A fun introduction to new series, by jconnor on October 14, 2005
This is the first book in the Morgan Horse series. It focuses on saddleseat riding which is something I've never seen written about before. That was fun for my kids and myself to learn about. The star, Heather, gets a horse, Blackjack, and learns to show the animal. Blackjack has trouble picking up one of his leads at the canter which added tension during the showing chapters. It was sort of funny because, hey, who hasn't had a horse with a canter issue? The story takes off when the horse's owner, an elderly gentleman who has entrusted his horses to Heather's care, falls ill. I found myself crying while reading that chapter. Fortunately, it has a happy ending so no need to worry about upsetting more sensitive children.
